Back in 2011, May 22 was the day after the day that some believed the rapture would occur. The news media covered it like these people were crazy. The late night comedians had a field day which continued for some time. Even in the workplace, people continued with what they had heard on television. I wonder, however… would the media and the comedians have presented the stories and the jokes any differently if they had actually known the truth?
The news media sarcastically presented time after time that the “world would be destroyed”. They obviously did not know or intentionally avoided mentioning the rapture. The rapture is what these followers were hoping everyone would understand as being the way out. And the few on television that DID actually mention the rapture, did so in the context of the “GOOD people being taken to Heaven”. I wonder if anyone let them know how they were showing their ignorance. Good has nothing to do with it. But we will NEVER hear the news media say that only those that have accepted Christ as their Savior will be taken whenever the rapture does indeed happen.
These followers that believed that May 21 was the day of the rapture… were they “crazy” as the media made them out to be? No… they were deceived. Matthew 24:36 – “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.”
But the media and the comedians… how much MORE harm have they done with their sarcasm and jokes? How many MORE followers do they have that will never come to know Christ because they “won’t want to be like those nuts”? Only the Father knows.
